On-site storage for builders and contractors, built where you are working

Tools, materials and equipment pile up fast on a job, and every night they go back in the van is time and risk. We deliver a lockable steel unit to the site, a residential driveway or a restricted-access location, and assemble it by hand exactly where you need it.

Why it works

Why builders and contractors choose Door To Store

Building and renovation projects rarely have spare space. A unit on site keeps tools dry, deliveries safe and the job organised.

Lockable space exactly where the work is

Tools, materials and equipment quickly pile up on a build, which raises the risk of damage and theft and wastes time moving things on and off site each day. We give you lockable storage exactly where you are working, whether that is a residential driveway, a commercial site or a restricted-access location.

Our modular steel units are delivered flat-packed and assembled by hand on site, so there is no need for cranes, HIABs or heavy machinery. That makes them ideal for tight residential streets, live sites and projects where access is limited or disruption has to be kept to a minimum. Builders and contractors commonly use them for:

  • Secure storage of tools and power equipment
  • Keeping materials dry and protected from the weather
  • Reducing theft risk on residential and open sites
  • Holding deliveries until they are needed
  • Keeping sites organised, safer and more efficient

Hire matched to the programme

We offer a range of unit sizes to suit everything from small domestic jobs to larger construction projects. Most builders hire for 4 to 16 weeks, with longer hire available for phased or ongoing works. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no fixed end date, so if the job runs over the unit simply stays.

As a temporary structure the unit does not usually need planning permission. It can go on suitable hardstanding such as driveways, concrete or tarmac, and on grass in some cases. When the project is complete we dismantle and remove it, leaving no permanent fixings behind.

Why on-site storage works on a build

Building projects put pressure on space, access and site organisation. Here is how a unit delivered and assembled where you are working helps.

  • Tools and materials next to the job. Delivered to the site or property, so equipment stays nearby instead of being stored off site or loaded in and out each day.
  • Valuable kit protected. Secure, weatherproof storage for power tools, fixtures, boxed stock and site equipment, away from theft, weather and unnecessary handling.
  • Works where access is restricted. Assembled by hand, so it suits residential driveways, gardens, yards and anywhere a container, crane or HIAB is not practical.
  • An organised, efficient site. Dedicated storage reduces clutter and keeps materials where the trades need them.
  • Flexible hire. A short residential job or a longer construction project; the hire period matches the works and extends when needed.
  • A practical alternative to vans, containers and off-site storage. Less repeated loading, less transport and no reliance on a storage facility across town.

Which size

Which size for the job?

A single-room refit needs less than a phased build. These three are the common picks, and every size is priced on the sizes page.

Domestic jobs

2 × 4 m
80 sq ft floor area£60 + VAT per week£160 + VAT install, same to collect

80 sq ft for power tools, fixings and the materials for a kitchen, bathroom or single-room refit, in a footprint that leaves the drive usable.

Extensions and refurbishments

2 × 6 m
120 sq ft floor area£80 + VAT per week£200 + VAT install, same to collect

120 sq ft: room for tools, plant and materials on an extension or a whole-house refurbishment, with space to walk in and find things.

Long materials

2 × 8 m
160 sq ft floor area£100 + VAT per week£240 + VAT install, same to collect

160 sq ft in a long, narrow footprint, so long items store flat and the unit still sits along the edge of a drive or site.

How it works

Delivered, assembled, collected

Two people, a van and a set of steel panels. No delivery slot for a lorry, no crane hire, no waiting.

1

Delivered by van

The panels arrive flat-packed on our Luton van, so tight streets, side passages and back gardens are not a problem.

  • No cranes, no HGVs, no HIABs
  • Minimum 2,150 mm height clearance on the route in
  • Weekday installations, Saturdays by appointment
2

Assembled by hand, on site

Our team builds the unit in the agreed spot on a firm, reasonably level surface. No permanent fixings, and planning permission is not usually needed.

  • Driveways, patios, gardens, yards and sites
  • Two built-in deadlocks on the door
  • Once loaded, the unit stays where it was built
3

Used, then collected

Keep it for four weeks or a lot longer. When you have finished and the unit is empty, we come back, dismantle it and take it away.

  • Give us 7 working days' notice to off-hire
  • Extend at any time, no fixed end date
  • Nothing left behind on your property

We deliver and assemble the unit. We do not transport or handle your belongings, so you load it at your own pace and keep the keys.

Questions

Questions from builders and contractors

How long do builders usually hire a unit for?

Most builders hire for 4 to 16 weeks, with longer hire for phased or ongoing works. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no fixed end date.

Can the unit go on a live or occupied site?

Yes. The panels arrive on a van and are carried in by hand, so we can install on tight residential streets, occupied premises and live sites without cranes, HIABs or heavy machinery. We need a clear route in with 2,150 mm of height clearance and a firm, reasonably level surface.

What surfaces can you install on?

Suitable hardstanding such as driveways, concrete or tarmac, and grass in some cases, agreed before installation. There are no permanent fixings, and the unit is dismantled and removed at the end of the job.

How secure is it overnight?

The units are steel, bolted together from the inside, with two built-in deadlocks on the door, and you keep the keys. Contents insurance is not included, so cover tools and equipment under your own policy.

How much notice do you need?

Usually seven days for delivery, although we can sometimes work at shorter notice subject to availability. Installations run 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, and Saturdays by appointment. Give us seven working days' notice to off-hire.

Does it need planning permission on site?

Not usually. The unit is a temporary structure with no permanent fixings and is removed when the project is complete. Check with the local planning authority for long-term placements, conservation areas or listed buildings.
