Why it works

Why schools and facilities teams choose Door To Store

Live environments need storage that arrives quietly, keeps areas clear and leaves no trace when the project is done.

Lockable storage that keeps classrooms and corridors clear

Schools and facilities teams often need extra space to support maintenance works, refurbishments and day-to-day site operations. Managing furniture, equipment and materials safely while keeping areas clear and accessible matters even more in a live environment.

We deliver secure, lockable units directly to your premises so items are stored safely on site while classrooms, corridors and working areas stay clear and organised. The modular steel units arrive flat-packed and are assembled by hand, without cranes or heavy machinery, which makes them ideal for school grounds, car parks and restricted-access areas where safety and minimal disruption come first. Schools and facilities teams commonly use them for:

  • Temporary storage of classroom furniture during refurbishments
  • Secure storage of maintenance equipment and site tools
  • Keeping materials safe during building or repair works
  • Supporting contractors working on site
  • Extra storage space during term time or the holidays

Installed and removed around the school calendar

We offer a range of sizes with hire to suit both short works and longer programmes. Whether you need storage for a few weeks over the holidays or for ongoing facilities management, units are installed and removed in line with your schedule. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no fixed end date.

As a temporary structure the unit does not usually need planning permission and can be installed on tarmac, concrete or other hardstanding. Once the project is complete it is dismantled and removed cleanly, leaving no permanent impact on the site.

Why on-site storage works for schools

School and facilities projects put pressure on space, access and the day-to-day running of the site. Here is how a unit delivered and assembled where it is needed helps.

  • Furniture and equipment out of the way. Delivered to the school, so furniture, classroom equipment, maintenance items and supplies are stored securely while refurbishment, maintenance or reorganisation works are carried out.
  • Protected during the works. Secure, weatherproof storage for school equipment, boxed items, furniture and facilities supplies, away from damage, disruption and unnecessary handling.
  • Works where access is limited. Assembled by hand, so it suits school grounds, car parks, service areas and other spots where cranes, HIABs or large containers are not practical.
  • Close to the building. Facilities teams, contractors and staff can reach what they need without relying on off-site storage.
  • Flexible for holiday works or longer programmes. Hire matched to the schedule and extended when required.
  • A practical alternative to containers. Less repeated handling, transport and clutter, and none of the access issues that come with a container delivery.

How it works

Delivered, assembled, collected

Two people, a van and a set of steel panels. Quiet to install, nothing left behind, and it fits round the school day.

1

Delivered by van

The panels arrive flat-packed on our Luton van, so tight streets, side passages and back gardens are not a problem.

  • No cranes, no HGVs, no HIABs
  • Minimum 2,150 mm height clearance on the route in
  • Weekday installations, Saturdays by appointment
2

Assembled by hand, on site

Our team builds the unit in the agreed spot on a firm, reasonably level surface. No permanent fixings, and planning permission is not usually needed.

  • Driveways, patios, gardens, yards and sites
  • Two built-in deadlocks on the door
  • Once loaded, the unit stays where it was built
3

Used, then collected

Keep it for four weeks or a lot longer. When you have finished and the unit is empty, we come back, dismantle it and take it away.

  • Give us 7 working days' notice to off-hire
  • Extend at any time, no fixed end date
  • Nothing left behind on your property

We deliver and assemble the unit. We do not transport or handle your belongings, so you load it at your own pace and keep the keys.

Questions

Questions from schools and facilities teams

Can you install during term time?

Yes. Installations run 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, with Saturdays by appointment, and there is no crane or heavy machinery involved. Tell us the times that suit the school when you book.

Where on the grounds can the unit go?

Tarmac, concrete or other hardstanding, such as a car park or service area. We need a firm, reasonably level surface and a clear route in with 2,150 mm of height clearance. Grass is possible in some cases, agreed before installation.

Is it secure on a school site?

The units are steel, bolted together from the inside, with two built-in deadlocks on the door. The school keeps the keys, and once loaded the unit stays where it was built. Contents insurance is not included, so cover stored items under the school's own policy.

How long can we keep it?

For as long as you need. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no maximum. Give us seven working days' notice when you are ready for collection.

Does the school need planning permission?

Not usually. The unit is a temporary structure with no permanent fixings and is removed when no longer needed. If the school is a listed building, in a conservation area or the unit will stay long term, check with the local planning authority first.

Can we add a second unit later?

Yes, in many cases. The units are modular, so extra space may be added later or an additional unit supplied if the programme of works grows.
