Storage for insurance claims, at the insured property

Drying, strip-out and reinstatement all need the contents out of the way, but not out of reach. We deliver a secure, weatherproof unit to the property and assemble it on the drive or in the garden, so household contents and salvageable items stay on site for the whole claim.

Why it works

Why claims teams choose Door To Store

Contents stay at the property, contractors get the space they need, and there is no repeat handling or off-site storage to organise.

Contents storage that stays with the claim

We deliver lockable storage units directly to the insured property, so household contents, salvageable items, tools and materials can be stored safely on site while drying, strip-out, repairs and reinstatement works are carried out.

The modular steel units arrive flat-packed and are assembled by hand at the property. They can go on driveways, gardens and other suitable areas without cranes or HIABs, which makes them a good fit for residential claims where access is restricted and disruption needs to be kept to a minimum. Insurance claims storage is commonly used for:

  • Temporary storage of household contents during reinstatement works
  • Protecting salvageable items from further damage
  • Clearing internal space to allow drying, strip-out and repairs
  • Supporting contractors carrying out insurance-related repairs
  • Reducing the need for off-site storage and repeated handling

Hire that follows the reinstatement timeline

Claims rarely run to a fixed schedule. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no fixed end date, so the unit can stay in place for as long as the works take and be removed promptly once they are complete. For complex or extended claims, talk to us about longer-term hire.

As a temporary structure the unit does not usually need planning permission and leaves no permanent fixings. Once reinstatement is finished we dismantle it and remove it cleanly from the property, helping return things to normal as efficiently as possible.

Why on-site storage works for insurance claims

Claims need contents stored safely while reinstatement, drying, repairs or inspections take place. Keeping that storage at the property reduces disruption and repeat handling.

  • Contents at or near the insured property. Household contents and salvageable items remain close by while works are carried out.
  • Protection during drying, strip-out and repairs. Secure, weatherproof storage for furniture, boxes, equipment and salvageable belongings while reinstatement is in progress.
  • Less disruption inside. Extra space helps contractors, surveyors, drying teams and other professionals work efficiently.
  • Where cranes or large containers are not practical. Assembled by hand on site, suitable for driveways, gardens and residential locations with restricted access.
  • Flexible hire. Storage stays for as long as needed and is removed promptly once works are complete.
  • Less repeat handling. Fewer loads, fewer trips and simpler claims logistics.

How it works

Delivered, assembled, collected

Two people, a van and a set of steel panels. The unit is up before the strip-out starts and gone once the property is handed back.

1

Delivered by van

The panels arrive flat-packed on our Luton van, so tight streets, side passages and back gardens are not a problem.

  • No cranes, no HGVs, no HIABs
  • Minimum 2,150 mm height clearance on the route in
  • Weekday installations, Saturdays by appointment
2

Assembled by hand, on site

Our team builds the unit in the agreed spot on a firm, reasonably level surface. No permanent fixings, and planning permission is not usually needed.

  • Driveways, patios, gardens, yards and sites
  • Two built-in deadlocks on the door
  • Once loaded, the unit stays where it was built
3

Used, then collected

Keep it for four weeks or a lot longer. When you have finished and the unit is empty, we come back, dismantle it and take it away.

  • Give us 7 working days' notice to off-hire
  • Extend at any time, no fixed end date
  • Nothing left behind on your property

We deliver and assemble the unit. We do not transport or handle your belongings, so you load it at your own pace and keep the keys.

Questions

Questions about insurance claims storage

Can the unit be delivered to the policyholder's home?

Yes. We deliver to the insured property and assemble the unit on the driveway, in the garden or on another suitable firm, reasonably level surface, with 2,150 mm of height clearance on the route in.

How long can the unit stay during a claim?

For as long as the works take. Hire is weekly, billed every four weeks, with a four-week minimum and no maximum. Give us seven working days' notice when the property is ready to be handed back and we will dismantle and collect.

Will the contents stay dry?

The units are weatherproof steel and protect contents from normal outdoor conditions. For moisture-sensitive items such as sofas, mattresses and fabrics we recommend Absorpoles, which manage natural humidity changes without power. One is advised per 2 × 2 m of unit.

Are the stored contents insured?

No. We do not insure the contents or the unit. Whoever hires the unit is responsible for insuring the contents, and the unit itself if necessary, for the hire period.

Do you handle or move the contents?

No. We deliver and assemble the unit and come back to dismantle it. Loading and unloading is done by the policyholder, the contractors or the removal team working on the claim, and they keep the keys.

How quickly can you install?

Usually with seven days' notice, and sometimes sooner subject to availability. Installations run 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, and Saturdays by appointment.
